Our rescue

Darwin, our Mascot

Small n Furry rescue was established in 2021 to help small exotic companion animals find forever homes. We are a small group composed of foster homes. Currently we are working on establishing our rescue as a nonprofit business, with the intentions of becoming a 501c3 organization. We accept small companion animals to our organization. This includes rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, sugar gliders, ferrets, and chinchillas. We are also able to accept reptiles and birds on a case by case basis.

Our current goals are to establish a network of foster families that will be able to help us take in more homeless animals. We hope to soon be working with other local rescue organizations and shelters. If you are interested in fostering for us, please send an email!

Our founder

Maddie has been rescuing animals since she was a child. Her first standout rescue accomplishment was hand raising 9 domestic rabbits when she was in the 6th grade after their mother stopped feeding them. She worked with the local SPCA for over 8 years and helped foster over 200 kittens and various small animals. She has always had a special interest in “small and furry” pets. After rescuing and rehabilitating several small animals over the years, she decided to make things more official by starting her own rescue organization. Currently she is a full time veterinary nurse in the exotics department at a hospital in New Jersey. When she is not working you will find her taking care of her “mini zoo” at home. Currently she lives with 2 cats, 3 rats, a hamster, 2 geckos, and a rotating group of fosters.
